Nagauta unit “Yuuga”
It was the summer of 2017 when “Yuuga” began its journey. It all started from a serendipity of three individuals.
The dancer Oh-gi Umetsuzu, the Nagauta shamisen player Kineya Sahosho, and the singer Araki Saeko have brought their distinctive artistic sensitivity to form a group “Yuuga”. We have been performing and expanding our horizon from its birthplace, California. It is our pleasure and the honor to bring the beauty and the value of the Japanese culture to the world from California. Sometimes one realizes the beauty and the value of our culture more, when one leaves the country and rediscovers it from outside. We thank this opportunity and the support from our friends, and promise to work hard to bring our performance to an even broader audience.
The past performances include:
October 2017 Recital to highlight Japanese culture at Stanford University, California
April 2018 Oh-gi school Japanese classical dance performance with a special guest, headmaster
Oh-gi Baiho from Japan
October 2018 Recital to highlight Japanese culture at University of Lyon
March 2019 Hinamatsuri festival Nagauta performance in California
